Colonialism and its Aftermath

A systemic constellation workshop

facilitated by Anngwyn St Just
Bristol, Oct 4th-5th

Imperialism in its colonial form is among the greater forces that have shaped human history. Its complex legacy has shaped individual lives, families, cultures, tribes, clans and the destiny of entire
nations. During this workshop experience we will explore possible connections to unresolved traumas within our transgenerational family systems, using both personal and large group constellations. The focus will vary according to the needs of individual participants.

“You can’t change the beginning but you can start where you are and change the ending”

The port city of Bristol, in Southwest England, has been chosen for this event in view of its pivotal role in the British slave trade that contributed to the expansion of the British Empire and its colonies. Man’s inhumanity to man has been known since our earliest days and various forms of human bondage and trafficking continue to this day.

L&S MIND 3rd Annual Event

A SPECIAL FUNDRAISER EVENING ON R.D. LAING AND ANTIPSYCHIATRY

All proceeds will go to the South London Psychosis Therapy Project at L&S Mind

Last year’s Lambeth & Southwark Mind sell-out event “Can Psychoanalysis Treat Psychosis?” marked the launch of the South London branch of the Psychosis Therapy Project. This year, we are celebrating the legacy of R.D. Laing and Antipsychiatry with a screening of Robert Mullan’s 2017 film “MAD TO BE NORMAL” starring David Tennant, followed by a Q&A with two Antipsychiatry Legends: Haya Oakley and Paul Zeal. Both worked closely with “Ronnie” for over three decades. They will share their impression of the film as well as their unique experience and insider’s view of the heyday of the Antipsychiatry movement. More special guests to be announced…

This special evening is a fringe event of the fundraiser conference on Psychosis and Psychoanalysis at the Freud Museum on the same day.

Sex, Gender, and Beyond

Humans are the most brilliant and tormented species ever to have lived on Earth. Unparalleled gifts of consciousness and intelligence have resulted in the most wonderful cultural attainments, but also in epidemics of hubris, conflict and violence. Could it be that in a deep and thorough understanding of three pairs of terms – male and female, masculine and feminine, yin and yang – that balance towards harmony could be found?

Sex and Gender are two of the most contested words in language, with clarifications and confusions generated in equal measure. I will use the word sex to refer to that which has been anatomically assigned to us, and gender to refer to matters of masculinity and femininity. I will critically discuss traditional psychoanalytic libido theory, namely that all sexual arousal is masculine and that the feminine is only passive. I will revise this theory towards an understanding that the feminine is itself energetic when tuned into and awakened. The ancient Taoist terms Yin and Yang mean feminine and masculine respectively, but they also refer far more widely to conditions of Nature. My intention is to throw light on male physical and sexual dominance and on patriarchal values, and to present an alternative embedded in Nature.
